Pines

This gouache painting was made from life in Croatia, standing among the pines and working directly in the warm Mediterranean light. I was fascinated by the rhythm of the trunks, the gentle movement of the branches and the stillness between the trees. This work is less about detail than about a feeling — warmth, air and stillness — a brief moment of calm, experienced and painted on the spot.
